Systems Engineering & Architecture

A good product starts with the right questions, asked before the first drawing. We make requirements measurable and draw the boundaries between hardware, software and mechanics from the outset. That way every team works from the same picture.

What we do

Requirements engineering

We turn stakeholder expectations into functional, environmental and regulatory requirements, and tie each one to a verification method.

System architecture

We define the subsystems, their responsibilities and the flow of data and power between them, and compare the alternatives on cost, risk and schedule.

Interface definitions

We pin down electrical, mechanical and software interfaces in interface control documents. Integration surprises shrink from the start.

Reliability and risk analysis

With FMEA and reliability predictions, we find weak points at the design stage and write the countermeasures back into the requirements.

Verification plan

For every requirement, we set the test method and acceptance criterion up front, and keep traceability intact throughout the project.

Typical deliverables

  • System requirements specification
  • System architecture and block diagrams
  • Interface control documents (ICD)
  • FMEA and risk register
  • Verification and test plan
  • Preliminary cost (BOM) model

Tools and platforms

  • SysML v2
  • Capella
  • Cameo
  • Polarion
  • Jama Connect
  • Structurizr

Standards and methods

  • ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288
  • ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148
  • IEC 60812 (FMEA)
  • MIL-HDBK-217F
  • IEC 61709
  • V-model

Applied as the project requires.

Our approach

We don’t see systems engineering as a pile of documents. We see it as work that keeps track of decisions. We write down the reasoning behind every architectural decision, and when a decision changes, we keep what it affects in plain view.

We choose the tools to fit the size of the project. A full model-based systems engineering (MBSE) effort can be the right answer. So can a lean requirements table for a small team.

Where we apply it

Core

Defence & Aerospace

Linking requirements to environmental and EMC test profiles; interface control documents and the verification plan.

Support

Industrial Automation

Planning integration with existing lines and systems; interface definitions.

Core

Automotive

Traceable design, from vehicle-level requirements down to subsystem requirements.

Support

IoT & Connected Products

End-to-end architecture; drawing the boundaries between device, gateway, cloud and application.

Neighbours on the axis

Next

Electronics & PCB Design

From schematic to a board ready for production. Power, signal integrity and testability are part of the design from day one.
